DETROIT HAD 203 MURDERS IN 2024. ROGERS SAYS THE GOAL SHOULD BE ZERO.

In case you missed it… Mike Rogers on Monday joined WJR’s Paul W. Smith to discuss why he’s urging the Detroit mayor to call President Trump for backup.

Detroit ranks 2nd in the nation for violent crime, soaring 400% above the national average. In 2024, the City of Detroit reported 203 murders. Mike Rogers says the goal should be zero. As a former federal law enforcement officer, Mike Rogers spent years working with state and local law enforcement to protect victims, bust gangsters, and clear criminals off the streets. He remains committed to keeping our communities safe.

WJR: Rogers says the goal should be ZERO murders in Detroit.

Listen here and read below:

  • Detroit is a phenomenal city, and so many people are making the right kinds of investments to get Detroit to a better place. What’s holding us back? [...] the sheer level of violent crime.

  • Ask for the federal surge that would allow us to take the most violent individuals out of these communities in Detroit and give their neighborhoods back to them. They deserve the same kind of freedom that goes along with not being afraid to walk to your car and take your kids to walk to school.

  • Imagine what we could do, Paul, if we got the crime cleaned up, and the investment, and people pulling through for Detroit. Then, we stop measuring the city's success on how many houses we tear down but how many houses we build in Detroit. I mean, I really think it could be the turning point for huge growth in Detroit. But you can’t do it if you’re looking the other way when people are getting robbed, getting assaulted, and raped, and of course murdered.

  • Don’t get excited about the fact that we had 203 murders in 2024. Our goal should be zero. We shouldn’t tolerate one.

  • We can do better. We have a President who’s willing to work with the city to do it. Why wouldn’t we take it?
