ROGERS CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF STATE AND FEDERAL GAS TAX

DETROIT, MI — Army veteran, former FBI street agent, former House Intelligence Chair, and candidate for U.S. Senate Mike Rogers today called for the suspension of both the state and federal gas tax.

“Lansing Democrats have made abundantly clear that they want more money out of your pocket and in the government’s. Last year alone, they raised our gas tax from 31 cents on the gallon to 51. That’s unconscionable,” said Rogers. “Abdul and the Democrats already gave us the highest utility rates in the midwest with their failed energy policies. Working families need leaders who will bring the costs of energy down, not ones who will make their lives less affordable. That’s why I’m calling for a suspension of both the state and federal gas tax–because hardworking Michiganders deserve relief at the pump.”

Michigan’s gas tax is currently 52.4 cents a gallon, which is about 19 cents higher than the national average. It’s also a more than 20 cent raise from last year, when Lansing Democrats voted to raise the gas tax from 31 cents on the gallon to 51.

The federal gas tax is an additional 18.4 cents. With the suspension of both the state and federal gas tax, Michiganders would save a total of nearly 71 cents per gallon. This would be an absolute game-changer for working families.
