ROGERS ANNOUNCES NEW COALITION: DEMOCRATS FOR MIKE ROGERS

WHITE LAKE, MI — Army veteran, businessman, and candidate for U.S. Senate Mike Rogers today announced the launch of his “Democrats for Mike Rogers” coalition. This launch marks Mike Rogers’ eighth coalition of the cycle, invites disenfranchised Democrat voters onto his team, and showcases Mike’s growing momentum across the state.

“Michiganders are tired of anger and division, and I don’t think there’s a better representation of that than what you see standing here today,” said Rogers. “When the stakes are this high, you put your differences aside, you listen to each other, and you work together. That's what Michigan needs now more than ever. This election is bigger than Republican versus Democrat, Left versus Right. It's about the Michigan we leave our kids and our grandkids.”

Mike Rogers announced the coalition during a Thursday press conference at the home of a supporter in Detroit, along with the following speakers:

  • Rep. Karen Whitsett:

“Thank you for being here. I am very happy to stand here on my block. This is actually my mother-in-law's home, and I actually live a few doors down.

This means a lot to me to be able to have Mike come to this neighborhood, and I think he's picking up where Mike Duggan left off. He understands and wants to make sure that our neighborhoods, our area, is not left behind. I really appreciated him coming here to actually walk through—not just today but previous days—and see everything that has been done and what still needs to be done. I am very confident that he will not leave us behind.

I'm not standing here as a state representative. I'm not standing here as a Democrat or a Republican, because I'm neither. My bottom line is that I want people to start to understand you need to pick your candidate by your issue. Period.

I'm only going to talk about one issue that's important for me, and that is health insurance. I'm not going to talk about the other candidate, because you can look it up for yourself. I'm going to talk about the man that's here today to make sure that things do not change and they only get better.

I do not want to lose my Blue Cross Blue Shield. My husband is an operating engineer, and I want my health insurance. I do not think people really realize what is on the line. You will lose your health insurance if the other candidate gets in office. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about it. That is what ‘Medicare for All’ means.

If you enjoy going to the ER now and sitting for six hours, get ready to enjoy that a whole lot longer because you may be sitting there for six weeks. That means you will be in a clinic, in a hospital, wherever they say that you go. Once again, you say you don't want the government in your business. Well, the government will be controlling your healthcare. They will control your doctors. They will control your medication. They will control your visits. They will control everything.

So, if for no other reason, common sense prevails that Mike Rogers is the candidate for you.”

  • Rabbi Asher Lopatin:

“I’m Rabbi Asher Lopatin from Huntington Woods. I usually vote Democrat, but I am going to be voting for Mike Rogers.

Abdul El-Sayed has made one thing very clear— we cannot let him anywhere near the U.S. Senate.

Sadly — tragically — he has shown contempt for the Jewish community and frankly for American values by making Hasan Piker, a vicious antisemite, a racist his  campaign surrogate and someone he buddies up with before and after the primary. He’s never disavowed Hasan’s antisemitism — a man who called Orthodox Jews like me “inbred”. When Abdul El-Sayed was asked about the terrorist who attempted to blow up a synagogue right here in Michigan with hundreds of children like Saylor, all he said was “hurt people hurt people.” Sadly, Abdul El-Sayed has only shown contempt for the Jews as a people, and called my people bloodthirsty and the reason Michigan doesn’t have the funds it needs.

So sadly he is completely unfit to represent any piece of Michigan, any community — Jews, African Americans, Chaldean Americans or even Arab Americans. So as someone who votes Democrat usually, I am proud to support Mike Rogers and  encourage others to do the same.”

  • Chelsea Rebeck:

“I’m Chelsea from West Bloomfield.

The last week since I came out as a life-long Democrat voting for Mike has been a whirlwind.

I have gotten a lot of reactions. A lot were empowering, but mostly they were judgmental and cruel.

We don’t have to agree on everything, we don’t have to agree on most things, but we need to agree on the basics. America is the greatest country in the world and we have to protect our freedoms.

I’m a lifelong Democrat. I voted for Obama. I voted for Hillary. I voted for Biden. I voted for Slotkin. I heavily supported Haley Stevens throughout her race. Now,  I'm voting for Mike Rogers because sometimes the election calls for us to look at something bigger than our party lines. The Democratic nominee that we've been given does not share my values, and he does not agree with a world that I want my children to grow up in.

I'm not a socialist. I'm not a communist. I'm a mom. I'm a proud Michigander.

I am a Democrat voting for Mike because I know that he shares the values that I do, and I know that he will work hard for families like mine in Michigan.”
