OP-ED: The Working Families Tax Cuts Are a Game-Changer For Michigan
In case you missed it… Army veteran, businessman, and Trump-endorsed candidate for U.S. Senate Mike Rogers today penned an op-ed in the Midwesterner, celebrating how the Working Families Tax Cuts are delivering real relief for Michiganders.
ROGERS: The Working Families Tax Cuts Are a Game-Changer For Michigan
April 15, 2026
The Working Families Tax Cuts are a game-changer for Michigan. For years, Democrats over taxed, overregulated, made life too expensive, and bled working families dry. And each April, couples would sit at the table and worry about how much they would have to pay in taxes. This year, those families are breathing a sigh of relief.
As President Trump fights to clean up Biden and the Democrats’ mess on inflation and affordability, the historic Working Families Tax Cuts are providing meaningful relief. An average Michigan family of four can save up to $9,900 more in takehome pay. Their wages are increasing up to an additional $6,100. And as I travel across the state meeting with Michiganders on the road, we are already seeing these numbers translate to real lives.
Just weeks ago, I went through a manufacturing facility in Rochester Hills to meet with their team and hear what needs are facing their business. When I got there, one of the leaders of this company told me he had just heard from his employee about how grateful he was for no tax on overtime. Last year, this worker had to pay $500 in for his taxes. This year, he got $3,500 back. That’s a $4,000 swing courtesy of the Working Families Tax Cuts.
We also heard from a bartender in his young 20s who said he got a $6,500 return this year because of no tax on tips. For a young guy fresh out of college, a little goes a long way – and $6,500 will help him buy the engagement ring he’s been saving up for to propose to his girlfriend.
These are only a couple of the millions of cases of Michiganders benefiting from the Working Families Tax Cuts. Over 3 million Michigan workers qualify for no tax on overtime. Another 1.7 million seniors benefit from slashing taxes on social security.
And these aren’t just statistics. These are families who are stressing less at the register, college students who have more money in their pockets to spend on books or tuition, and seniors who can take their grandkids to the zoo or keep more of the money they’ve spent a life-time earning.
The bottom line: When you have leaders who put the American people first, America wins. Michigan wins.
And not only does the Working Families Tax Cuts bill keep more money in our pockets, it makes historic investments in rural healthcare, boosts small businesses, and keeps Michiganders safe. Michigan alone received $173 million for our rural hospitals to increase accessibility and quality of healthcare. Tax deductions were extended for nearly 135,000 Michigan small businesses – money that goes straight back into your wallet and into the community. The tax cuts also made historic investments in border security to keep criminal illegal aliens such as murderers, rapists, human traffickers, suspected terrorists, and cartels out.
This landmark law is about making life more affordable, investing in America, and keeping our communities safe. It’s common sense. We should all be united in trying to make life more affordable for working families. But rather than support historic tax cuts that put more money in Michiganders’ pockets, every single Democrat opposed it.
Both of Michigan's two Democrat senators voted against the tax cuts. All three of my Democrat opponents did, or said that they would do, the same. Why? They would rather see America fail than President Trump succeed.
Today’s Democrat party has abandoned working people. And in Michigan, the Democrats have failed us with their monopoly over our two Senate seats. For 32 years, we have had two Democrat Senators thinking the same way, talking the same way, and voting the same way – and against the interests of Michigan families. This is a change election. It’s time to break the cycle. In November, we have a choice: vote to keep wins like this coming or let Democrats send us back into decline.
When I get to the United States Senate, we will make these tax cuts permanent and keep putting working Michigan families first. You can bank on that.
