DETROIT, MI — Army veteran, former FBI street agent, former House Intelligence Chair, and candidate for U.S. Senate Mike Rogers today released the following statement remembering the victims of October 7th and reconfirming his commitment to stand alongside Michigan’s Jewish community:
“Three years ago today, the world witnessed in horror the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust. Over 1,200 innocent civilians, including Americans, were killed by the hands of barbaric Hamas terrorists. This dark day is a sad reminder that evil exists all around us. And how we respond to evil determines how much it grows.
Last year, Abdul El-Sayed fundraised off of October 7th. Then, he repeatedly campaigned with Hasan Piker who said, ‘It doesn’t matter if rapes f***ing happened on October 7.’ These are insults to everyone who lost their lives that tragic day. Even when a terrorist tried to blow up 140 kids at Temple Israel, in our own backyard, Abdul sympathized with the attacker, saying, ‘hurt people hurt people.’ At a time when we especially need to turn the temperature down and stand alongside our Jewish friends and neighbors, he only spreads antisemitism and incites more violence.
Hate like that has no home in Michigan. We shouldn’t have to live in a world where Jewish students fear wearing a Star of David necklace on their walk to class. Or where parents are afraid to take their kids to day care. You have my word, I will always stand proudly alongside Michigan’s Jewish community, against terrorism, and for Israel’s right to defend itself.
We must root out antisemitic hate in all forms–because when we say ‘never again,’ we must mean it.”
