HOME BUILDERS, YOUNG MICHIGANDERS, REALTORS, AND BUSINESS LEADERS CELEBRATE MIKE ROGERS’ HOUSING AFFORDABILITY PLAN

WHITE LAKE, MI — Army veteran, businessman, and Trump-endorsed candidate for U.S. Senate Mike Rogers held a press conference on Tuesday, along with Michiganders across the state, to release his housing affordability plan.

Mike’s four keys to unlocking homeownership include the following:

  • Assisting with down payments by expanding 529 savings accounts to housing

  • Lowering interest rates by allowing families to build credit for timely rent payments

  • Bringing down purchase prices by ending crippling overregulation

  • Encouraging new home construction by adding incentives for homebuilders

Michiganders at the press conference expressed the following support of Mike Rogers’ plan:

“As I prepare to graduate in May, what should feel like a bright future, instead feels uncertain for myself and many in my generation – because housing has become too scarce and too expensive, putting a key part of the American Dream out of reach… This challenge hits especially close to home. At SVSU, many of my classmates want to stay in the Great Lakes region. Yet, our region alone is short 4,300 housing units. When affordable housing is unavailable, young people are forced to leave or abandon homeownership altogether… if we want young people to be able to achieve the American Dream, it starts with this plan to make American housing affordable again.”

– Evan Burdick, College student

“This topic of affordability comes up often. We hear about it from many of our members, those members being builders, contractors, welders, skilled trades, real estate agents, investors – all of which are trying to meet the buying demand but are navigating the processes of regulations that waste time and add costs. We hear about all the red tape, and that is the long permit timelines, land use restrictions, outdated wetland regulations in the state of Michigan, and approval processes that will add months, if not years, to a project. That drives up the costs and that limits the supply… this is why Mike Rogers’ approach resonates with the business community in Michigan.”

– Maria Polsinelli, Southeast Michigan Chamber Vice President

“As Mike said, the average age of a first-time homebuyer is now 40 years old. One of the leading causes of this are the interest rates. High interest rates price many out of the market entirely. Unfortunately, I’ve seen it firsthand. Mike’s plan to help people in Michigan buy a home is a game-changer. It allows renters to build credit for their on-time payments. It will be key in unlocking opportunities and housing for so many families. By helping families build credit, it will bring down interest rates on their loans, and in turn, lower their payments. Just a little bit on an interest rate can affect hundreds of dollars on a monthly payment for families. Plain and simple. He’s providing real changes that will actually lower costs.”

– Claire Imbrunnone, Realtor

“Homes build so many things – memories, communities, and opportunities. For individuals and families to own a home, there need to be homes available for them… in 2021, the regulatory cost of building one home was $93,870… As Mike mentioned, 3,393 households are priced out of the market for every $1,000 of increase in a home… we need real, non-partisan solutions aimed at making housing–and life–more affordable for working families… thank you, Mike, for realizing this is a real issue that needs real solutions.”

– Dawn Crandall, Executive Vice President of Government Relations for Homebuilders Association of Michigan
