AS VIOLENT CRIME RAVAGES DETROIT COMMUNITIES, DEMOCRATS CALL HELP “UNWARRANTED”
WHITE LAKE — Last week, Vice President Vance offered to send backup into Detroit–the nation’s second most violent city —to reduce violent crime. This offer follows weeks of former federal law enforcement officer and Trump-endorsed candidate for U.S. Senate Mike Rogers calling on the Detroit Mayor to ask the President for help. Today, Michigan Democrats called it “unwarranted.”
“In Detroit, Michiganders are getting murdered, raped, robbed, and assaulted at a rate higher than almost any other city in the country, but will Democrats accept the President’s help to stop it? Of course not,” said Rogers. “Instead, they’re protecting criminals over families. And proving once again, they will let their hatred for the President get in the way of real results for Michigan.”
Let’s take a look at what Whitmer and Michigan Democrats call “unwarranted”
Detroit ranks second in the nation for violent crime — soon to be first with President Trump cracking down on crime in Memphis.
Detroit soars about 400% above the national average for violent crime, which includes murder, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery.
In 2024, according to FBI data, Detroit had:
9,584 aggravated assaults
203 murders
620 rapes
4,611 burglaries
And these aren’t just statistics; they’re people. Among Detroit’s most recent crimes:
A 6-year-old boy was murdered in a drive-by shooting.
A man in his early 30s was murdered in a drive-by shooting during a repass. Two women in their 20s were also injured.
A Detroit woman was carjacked at gunpoint by masked suspects.
A woman was allegedly held at gunpoint and raped in a porta-potty.
While the soft-on-crime Democrats refuse to crackdown on violent criminals, Mike Rogers remains committed to keeping Michigan families safe.
