Sen. Tim Scott and Black Faith Leaders in Detroit are with Mike Rogers

Yesterday, U.S. Senator Tim Scott joined Mike Rogers on the campaign trail for a roundtable discussion with Black faith leaders in Detroit. The group highlighted how Democrats have failed Black communities with rising costs, a dangerous open border, unsafe streets, and failing schools leading to poor literacy rates.

Republicans like Mike Rogers and Sen. Scott will work to expand opportunity zones, lower costs, and improve literacy to give all Americans the opportunity to succeed that they deserve.

Tim Scott: We’re with @MikeRogersForMI! Are you?! What a great afternoon with Black faith leaders in Detroit!

Ali Main, CNN: .@MikeRogersForMI said he’s seen “movement” in his engagement with Black voters in Detroit. "You don't have to say you're a Republican. We just need you to be open to some ideas & some solutions, rather than trying the same thing over and over and over & getting the same result.”

Michigan Public: Republican US Senate candidate Mike Rogers seeks Black support in Detroit a week before Election Day

Michigan’s Republican U.S. Senate candidate spent part of Tuesday meeting with Black pastors and other leaders. Mike Rogers is urging Black voters to consider voting for him and other Republicans ahead of Election Day next week.

“People are saying ‘Hey, I’m not sure I’m a Republican.’ And we’re saying you don’t have to say you’re a Republican,” Rogers told the roundtable, “We just need you to be open to some ideas and solutions.”

African Americans in Michigan traditionally vote overwhelmingly Democratic. But the Rogers’ campaign is hoping any Black voters crossing over to vote for him and other GOP candidates could be critical in November’s general election.

U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) joined Rogers in Tuesday’s roundtable. He says African-American voters in Michigan should be open to voting for Republicans.

“I’m not asking anybody to become a Republican. But I’m asking everybody to vote your values,” Scott told the pastors.

Ali Main, CNN: Rogers campaigned with @votetimscott who said his message to Black voters is: “I'm not asking anybody to become a Republican, but I'm asking everybody to vote your values, vote your future, and, most importantly, vote for the future of your children.”

Panelist: “It’s heartbreaking to see what is going on in the city of Detroit. Most people don’t know that Detroit used to be one of the wealthiest cities. My mother migrated from Mississippi to Detroit in the 60s as a single teen mom… She lived what I believe was the American dream until her death. I understood what President Trump was saying about restoring Detroit and making Detroit great again. As a criminal defense attorney, I see a different perspective. I look at the fact that 71% of black children are born to single mothers. I look at the fact that the literacy crisis which is the real school to prison pipeline. I’ve been in most of the prisons in this state and I see people who look like me.

“We need policies that benefit this community. As someone who spent a lot of my adult life in the Democrat party, what I see is them peddling this cycle of victimhood and poverty that has desecrated our community. As someone in the faith based community, it is my mission to get black people to realize we can no longer afford to elevate race above righteousness. We have to vote our values. The policies of the Democrat party dismantled the black family and that’s what they will continue to do. It’s easy for me, as a real black woman, to vote for President Trump and to support Mike Rogers because the policies are clear. I saw the criminal justice reform, the policies supporting the nuclear family… policies that support protecting women in girls sports.”
