Now, the President just needs backup in the Senate to build on these successes.

President Trump’s State of the Union address made one thing clear: the American comeback is well underway.
After Joe Biden drove our nation’s economy into the ground, decimated hardworking Americans’ pocketbooks, and pushed policies that put Washington bureaucrats ahead of workers, America is once again thriving. The state of our union is strong, and here in Michigan, we’re beginning to see what’s possible when American families are put first.
For too long, Michiganders were told to accept less. Families watched the cost of groceries, gas, and housing skyrocket while Washington Democrats insisted everything was fine. Working families were finding it harder to get ahead.
President Trump is reversing that damage. Core inflation is down to its lowest level in five years. The Working Families Tax Cuts are putting real money back into people’s pockets. By permanently extending the 2017 tax cuts, eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, and expanding relief for families and seniors, the typical Michigan family of four will see up to $9,900 in additional take-home pay. That’s not just a statistic – that’s groceries on the table, bills paid, and a chance to save for the future.
I spoke to a manufacturer this week who told me that one of his employees just got $3,500 back on his taxes this year. Last year, he paid in $500. That’s a swing of $4,000! The difference? No tax on overtime. Three million Michiganders, like this one, will benefit from no tax on overtime. Even more get to enjoy no tax on tips. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. President Trump is reshoring billions of dollars in investments and bringing good, high-paying jobs back to Michigan.
Economic security also requires national security. Under the Biden administration, more than 10 million illegal immigrants entered our country, overwhelming communities and straining law enforcement. Every state became a border state, including Michigan.
President Trump is restoring law and order. He is working to create the most secure southern border in American history. Border crossings have already fallen to their lowest level in more than half a century. Violent criminals are being removed from our streets, and our communities are becoming safer again. When families feel safe in their neighborhoods and confident in their country’s future, opportunity can flourish.
That opportunity must include homeownership. Homeownership is the cornerstone of the American Dream. Unfortunately, that dream has been pushed out of reach for too many young people and working families thanks to Democrats’ crippling overregulation and years of record high inflation under Biden.
The American Dream isn’t dead. It’s been rigged. And it’s time we fix it.
My four-point plan will make commonsense reforms to unlock homeownership and restore opportunity.
First, we must modernize how families build credit. If missing a rent payment can hurt your credit score, then paying rent on time should help it. Millions of responsible Michiganders are proving their financial reliability every month, yet our system fails to reward them. My plan will ensure timely rent payments help families build credit to lower interest rates and bring down monthly payments. Even a little bit of change on an interest rate can make the difference of hundreds of dollars each month.
Second, we must help families save for down payments. I was proud to champion 529 education savings accounts in the Michigan State Senate. Next, we’re going to expand that to housing, giving families a tax-advantaged pathway to prepare for homeownership.
Finally, we must increase housing supply by cutting unnecessary regulations and encouraging new construction. Overregulation has driven up costs and slowed development. By removing barriers and incentivizing builders, we can increase supply, reduce prices, and make homeownership attainable again.
This is about restoring the promise that if you work hard and play by the rules, you can build a stable, secure life.
President Trump’s leadership is delivering results. Jobs are returning. Manufacturing is growing. Our border is once again secure. Our communities are becoming safer. And we are reviving our economy so that it once again works for the American people.
But to fully secure this progress, Michigan needs strong, commonsense leadership in the U.S. Senate. We need leaders who will fight for working families, defend our security, and expand opportunity – not return to the failed America Last policies that created this crisis.
We’re going to fix what the Democrats broke. We’re going to bring commonsense leadership back to Washington. And we’re going to make the American Dream achievable again for every hardworking Michigan family.
