Op-Ed: EV Mandates Raise Prices and Enrich China
In case you missed it, Mike Rogers penned an op-ed in the The Detroit News on how the Harris-Slotkin EV mandates negatively impact Michigan’s auto industry and national security. Democrats like Slotkin appear to be completely unaware of the threat the EV mandate poses and how they enrich China at the expense of Michigan, as she voted for the EV mandate just last month.
The state that put the world on wheels deserves better than what Slotkin is serving in Washington. Mike Rogers will defend Michigan’s auto industry and auto workers by eliminating the EV mandate.
Rogers: EV mandates raise prices and enrich China

Just this week, Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, announced they are laying off 1,100 workers at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Macomb County. The company also declared plans for indefinite layoffs across its operations to cut costs due to declining sales with the potential impacts on Stellantis' workforce to the tune of 52,000 employees. This mandate is not just an attack on gas-powered vehicles, but also an attack on Michigan's auto industry. As we have seen, this mandate will cause financial carnage on classic American companies like General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis. EVs make up less than 4% of sales for the former two. Meanwhile, the situation benefits foreign luxury auto brands like BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, and Porsche.

This is why the majority of Michiganians oppose an electric vehicle mandate. According to a recent poll, 64% of Michigan residents say stopping these mandates will be important in deciding who they will vote for. And 57% oppose their efforts to subsidize this job-killing effort.
In the Senate, Harris was one of the most ardent supporters of the Green New Deal, which required the elimination of fossil fuels. She even said in 2019 she would eliminate the filibuster to pass it. Michigan Democrats have voted time and again to join Harris in her anti-gas engine efforts, including just last month.
We need someone with a commonsense, America First energy approach in the White House and the U.S. Senate. Trump and I will have the backs of auto workers and all Michigan residents in Washington.
