FORMER MICHIGAN GOP CONGRESSMAN MIKE ROGERS ANNOUNCES SENATE RUN

Former Rep. Mike Rogers, who spent 14 years representing a Howell-area district in the House, announced Wednesday he’s seeking — for the second time — to succeed Sen. Debbie Stabenow in Congress.
“I thought I put politics behind me, but like you, I know something’s broken,” Rogers said in a video announcing his Senate campaign. “America under Joe Biden and his cronies is going in the wrong direction.”
Rogers is the most well-known Republican to enter the race to date, and certainly the candidate with the deepest political resume. He served in the House for 14 years, from 2001 through 2014, and chaired the powerful House Intelligence Committee for four years. He also served in the state Senate and spent a term as majority leader of that body before being elected to the U.S. House in 2000, succeeding Stabenow, then a representative, after she was elected to the Senate.
In the video Rogers tells viewers he is running “to get government out of the way, unleash American innovation and take common sense back to Washington.” He laments “open borders” and “a broken system of justice,” touching on inflation and “schools that care more about social engineering than, as my father used to say, readin’, writin’ and ‘rithmetic.”
